About Us

The Burlingame Music Club (BMC), celebrating its 85th season in 2015-2016, is a gem of an organization on the San Francisco Bay Area Peninsula, especially to lovers of fine music and art. It is a non-profit organization and proud member of both the National Federation of Music Clubs and California Federation of Music Clubs, whose missions are to support and develop American music and musicians.

The major purpose of the Burlingame Music Club is to provide performance opportunities for gifted young musicians of piano, strings, voice, woodwinds and brass.  The student performers compete for cash awards.  At present the first prize is $1,000, but more importantly the doors that can potentially open to the student competitors are even greater, and the experience can be used on future resumes.

The program meetings occur on the second Monday of the month at 1:00 p.m. November through May.  The venue for our meetings is 241 Park Road, Burlingame, California.  The programs are free and open to the public.  We extend an invitation to you to attend our next meeting and enjoy an afternoon of music and art as well as tea and sweets after the performance.

At each monthly program meeting/tea, students entering the annual competition perform.  Students of voice and brass/woodwind instruments perform in one year and in the alternate year students of piano and string instruments play.  In addition to student performers, talented professional musicians and local artists are given the opportunity to present their work on a regular basis.

The Club’s annual dues are $35.00 per person.  As with any organization, we extend an invitation to new members to revitalize and sustain our mission.  Membership is open to both men and women and people of all ages.  To become a member, complete and return an application form.  Membership in BMC helps contribute to the rich cultural life of the Peninsula, supports our professional artists and continues to spark the promise of today’s gifted young musicians.  Through these young people our musical reach can be far and wide and well into the future.

The Club also welcomes donations.  In July 2003, BMC became a nonprofit organization and is exempt from federal income tax under IRS section 501(c)(3).  Donations may be made to the general fund, which is used primarily for student awards.  Checks should be made payable to the Burlingame Music Club and mailed to P. O. Box 8, San Mateo, CA  94401.
